🇹🇭 Thailand’s New Visa Rules For 2026 — Explained Simply 🌏✈️

Thailand has officially cancelled its famous 60-day visa-free stay 😮

Most tourists who used to get 60 days will now only get 30 days instead ⏳

But this is not just happening in Thailand 👀

Countries all over the world are tightening travel and immigration rules after the huge tourism boom following COVID 🌍

🧳 Why Thailand Changed The Rules

Thailand introduced the 60-day visa-free stay in 2024 to boost tourism after the pandemic 📈

It worked — millions of tourists returned 🏝️

But officials later said the longer stays also caused problems like:

  • 💼 Illegal work
  • 🏢 Unregistered businesses
  • 🔄 Endless visa runs
  • 💻 Online scams and crime

  • Thai officials now say they want “quality tourists” instead of just huge tourist numbers 💰

    That means Thailand wants more:

  • ✨ Luxury travellers
  • 🏥 Medical tourists
  • 💻 Remote workers using proper visas
  • 👴 Retirees with stable income

  • And less:

  • 🚫 Visa abuse
  • 🚫 Illegal jobs
  • 🚫 Long unregulated stays
  • ✈️ The 60-Day Visa-Free Stay Is Gone

Previously, travellers from 93 countries could stay in Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days 🛂

That programme has now been cancelled ❌

Most eligible travellers will now receive:

  • ⏳ 30-day visa-free stays instead of 60 days
  • Thailand says the new system follows a:

“One country, one visa privilege” policy 📋

    🌍 Countries Still Getting 30-Day Visa-Free Entry

Thailand reduced the 30-day visa-free list from 57 countries to 54 countries.

    Countries still included are:

  • 🇸🇬 Singapore
  • 🇲🇾 Malaysia
  • 🇺🇸 United States
  • 🇬🇧 United Kingdom
  • 🇦🇺 Australia
  • 🇯🇵 Japan
  • 🇩🇪 Germany
  • 🇨🇦 Canada

  • Travelling to Thailand is still easy for these countries — you just cannot stay as long without another visa 🧳

🏝️ Some Countries Now Only Get 15 Days

    Thailand also created a smaller 15-day visa-free category ⏱️

  • 🇲🇻 Maldives
  • 🇲🇺 Mauritius
  • 🇸🇨 Seychelles
  • 🛬 Visa On Arrival (VOA) Has Been Reduced

Visa on Arrival means travellers can land in Thailand first and apply for a visa at the airport 🛂

Previously, 31 countries could do this. Now only 4 countries remain 😳

  • 🇮🇳 India
  • 🇷🇸 Serbia
  • 🇧🇾 Belarus
  • 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan

  • Everyone else may now need to:

  • 📲 Apply online before travelling
  • 🖥️ Use Thailand’s e-Visa system
  • 📄 Get a proper visa before arrival

  • Basically: Thailand is making it harder for travellers to simply “show up and get a visa at the airport” ✈️

🤝 Some Countries Still Get Special Deals

Thailand also has reciprocal agreements 🤝

That means: “If your country gives easy access to Thai citizens, Thailand will do the same for you.”

    🌎 Countries Getting 90 Days

  • 🇰🇷 South Korea
  • 🇧🇷 Brazil
  • 🇦🇷 Argentina

  • 📋 Online travel approvals
  • 🔒 Stronger immigration enforcement

  • Travel is becoming:

  • ✅ More digital
  • ✅ More automated
  • ✅ More monitored
  • 💻 Digital Nomad Visas Are Growing Fast

At the same time, countries also want wealthy remote workers 💰💻

More than 50 countries now offer digital nomad visas 🌴

    These visas target people who:

  • 💻 Work online
  • 💵 Earn foreign income
  • 🏠 Stay legally long-term
  • 🛍️ Spend money locally

  • Countries offering them include:

  • 🇹🇭 Thailand
  • 🇵🇹 Portugal
  • 🇪🇸 Spain
  • 🇮🇩 Indonesia
  • 🇯🇵 Japan

🇬🇧 The UK And 🇺🇸 US Are Tightening Rules Too

    The UK recently introduced:

  • 💷 Higher salary requirements for work visas
  • 🎓 Stricter student visa rules
  • 🚫 Fewer low-skilled migration options

  • Meanwhile, the US is expanding:

  • 🤖 AI immigration screening
  • 📸 Biometric border systems
  • 📱 Digital travel monitoring

  • 📱 Smart Borders Are The Future

Around the world, border systems are becoming “smart” 🧠

    Governments increasingly want:

  • 📲 Online visa applications
  • 📸 Facial recognition
  • 🛂 Biometric passports
  • ✈️ Pre-screening before flights
  • 🚪 Automated immigration gates

  • Travel is becoming easier digitally — but much more monitored at the same time 👀

⏳ When Do Thailand’s New Rules Start?

The new rules begin 15 days after publication in Thailand’s Royal Gazette 📅

If you already entered Thailand legally before the changes, you can stay until your current permission expires ✅

    🧠 What Travellers Should Remember

    The old travel mindset was:

“Book first, figure it out later.” 😅

    Now it’s:

“Prepare everything digitally before you fly.” 📲✈️

    Travellers increasingly need:

  • 📄 Online approvals
  • 💰 Proof of funds
  • 🎫 Return tickets
  • 🏨 Hotel bookings
  • 📋 Digital arrival forms
  • 📌 Quick Summary

  • 🇹🇭 Thailand cancelled 60-day visa-free stays
