Thai Border Tensions Rise: F-16s Strike Cambodian Positions
Thai authorities have deployed F-16 fighter jets to hit Cambodian military positions after renewed clashes along the Thai–Cambodian border. The government is taking strong measures to protect Thai soldiers and civilians living near the border.
What Happened
On Sunday, December 7, 2025, Cambodian troops attacked Thai positions in the Phu Pha Lek–Phlan Hin Paet Kon area, Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province. The next morning, Monday, December 8, new clashes occurred in Chong An Ma, Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani province. Thai troops responded to incoming fire, resulting in 1 soldier killed and 4 wounded.
Why Airstrikes Were Launched
Army spokesperson Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree said Cambodian artillery and air-dropped munitions had caused Thai casualties at Anupong Base. To stop further attacks and protect Thai troops, airstrikes targeted Cambodian command posts and fire-support positions.
Airstrike Targets
- Chong An Ma
- Prasat Khana
- Radio mast site near Preah Vihear
Protecting Civilians
Authorities are assisting with evacuations in border provinces such as Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, and Buri Ram. Residents in high-risk zones have been asked to move to safe shelters, where food and accommodation are provided. Thai citizens should follow all official instructions and stay away from the border.
What Thai Citizens Should Do
- Follow evacuation orders immediately if you live near the border.
- Stay informed using official government or military announcements.
- Help vulnerable neighbors, especially the elderly and children, during evacuations.
- Do not go near conflict areas or take risks for photos/videos.
Why It Matters
This is part of a long-standing border dispute. Past clashes in 2025 displaced over 130,000 people and caused casualties among civilians and soldiers. Thai authorities emphasize safety first while continuing to protect national territory.
Stay Safe
The situation is still developing. Airstrikes, artillery exchanges, and troop movements may continue. As a Thai citizen, staying alert, helping neighbours, and following official guidance is the best way to stay safe during this tense time.
