Thailand’s Army Receives DTI-1G Guided Rocket System for Long-Range Precision Strikes
On November 13, 2025, Thailand’s Defence Technology Institute (DTI) delivered new advanced military systems to the Royal Thai Army. The ceremony featured the introduction of the DTI-1G Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System and the D11A Multi-Purpose Rocket Launcher Vehicle, both designed to enhance Thailand's defensive capabilities with long-range precision strikes.
Key Equipment Delivered
The three key pieces of equipment received by the Royal Thai Army include:
- DTI-1G Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System: Delivered to the Field Artillery Division, this system is a surface-to-surface guided missile designed for long-range precision strikes. With a range of up to 150 km, it is capable of destroying key military targets, including command posts, ammunition depots, and radar stations. The system uses a GPS/INS guidance system, ensuring high accuracy and a destruction radius of over 70 meters.
- D11A Multi-Purpose Rocket Launcher Vehicle: This vehicle is equipped with the capability to launch multiple types of rockets. It can fire:
- 122mm rockets with a range of 40 km
- 306mm rockets with a range of 150 km
- 370mm rockets with a range of 300 km
- 105mm CS/AH2 Light Field Gun: This towed artillery system, with a maximum range of 20 km, is designed to provide supporting artillery fire. It uses GPS/INS automated targeting, allowing it to fire accurately without needing a map.
Development and Capabilities
These systems are developed locally in collaboration with international partners:
- The DTI-1G and 105mm light field gun have been technology-transferred from China and adapted for Thailand's needs by DTI engineers.
- The D11A Multi-Purpose Rocket Launcher was developed with technology from Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense company.
Strategic Importance of the DTI-1G and D11A Systems
DTI-1G Guided Rocket System
This missile system is designed for strategic, operational, and tactical use, capable of hitting targets far behind enemy lines with high precision. It’s particularly valuable for destroying deep, distant targets, such as:
- Command posts
- Ammunition depots
- Airports
- Other military targets
With a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of less than 40 meters, the DTI-1G provides Thailand with a powerful tool for defending its sovereignty while ensuring minimal collateral damage.
D11A Multi-Purpose Rocket Launcher
The D11A is a versatile vehicle capable of launching rockets at different ranges. The ability to fire rockets ranging from 40 km to 450 km makes it a strategic asset. Its design allows the vehicle to adjust target acquisition mid-launch, ensuring greater flexibility and precision in real-world combat scenarios.
Thailand’s Defense Strategy
Gen Naphon Sangsomwong, Chairman of DTI, emphasized that these advanced systems are being developed solely for defensive purposes. Thailand’s government maintains that its new capabilities are not intended to invade other countries but to defend its sovereignty and ensure national security.
Future Plans and Technology Developments
As part of its long-term defense strategy, Thailand's DTI is focusing on a broad range of technological advancements:
- Tactical Robots: DTI has developed a robot equipped with weaponry that can patrol areas in place of human soldiers. This robot, already delivered to the Suranaree Command, is designed to carry equipment and can move forward up to 5 kilometers. The Army is currently assessing its effectiveness.
- Mine Clearance Technology: The Institute is collaborating with the Engineer Department to develop effective mine-clearing strategies.
- Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs): DTI is working on drone technology for both surveillance and operational use.
DTI is also researching advanced systems for surveillance, such as satellites and high-altitude balloons, as well as specialized systems for countering drones and other emerging threats.
Conclusion
The delivery of the DTI-1G and D11A systems represents a significant step forward in Thailand's defense capabilities. With these advanced weapons, Thailand can now more effectively protect its borders and respond to regional threats. The focus remains on self-reliance and enhancing national security through technological innovation.
